The study concluded that not only did Ngugi s Matigari and Mda s The Heart of Redness exemplify the basic concepts of the practice of intertextuality in contentemporary African writings, these novels helped to realise the significance of the poststructural theory to the study of African writings.

Akinwande Bankole Idowu teaches at Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, Nigeria in the Department of General Studies. He took Master of Arts degrees in English Language and Literature in English from the University of Ibadan and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, respectively. His research interests span Pragmatics, Stylistics and Literary Theory.
