"What is this?" "Where did it come from?" "How long has it been there?" These were the thoughts that kept Barb Dunn from sleep one night in January 2011 after finding a lump in her left breast. Visits with doctors and a battery of tests soon revealed that Barb had atypical lobular hyperplasia, a high-risk indication that she could potentially be diagnosed with breast cancer and which led to her choice for a bilateral mastectomy. Instead of doubting her future or giving up hope, Barb put her faith and trust in the only comfort she knew, God Almighty. Her new book, Whispers of Wisdom, comprises a collection of journal entries, emails and personal reflections that create a chronological "flashback" to her life-changing health ordeal. "Although the thought of having potentially cancerous cells in my breasts frightens me, I have information. I don't know what final decisions I will eventually make using this information but at least I have the knowledge. Now, I need the wisdom. There are so many details, so many pieces to put together. Even with my scientific and medical background, it all seems overly complicated to me - but not to God. Nothing is too complicated for Him. I need to remember that, and to remind myself to take one step at a time." Barb soon saw God's presence and involvement in her life as He positioned caring and Christian-minded medical professionals and prayer warriors in her path, bringing about scripture verses that pertained to her situation and speaking to her softly in prayer. Her journey wasn't just a battle to teach her more about God; it was an experience to share Jesus shining inside her to others. Besides strengthening her relationship and reliance on God, Barb hopes her story positively inspires other people who are undergoing difficult circumstances in their lives, health-related or not.
