A few excellent status review of this area of research is available. However, information on plot technique for field experimentation on intercrop system as well as critical stages of competition of crops involved in intercropping systems are lacking. Such information has its own significance in planning of experiments on intercropping systems. Critical stage of competition has direct relevance with productivity of the component crops of the systems. Keeping this in view, the study was undertaken.
