The purpose of this book is to investigate the impact that varying degrees of subsidiary embeddedness has on competence development, subsidiary evolution and perception of clusters in Norwegian maritime subsidiaries located in the YRD area maritime cluster. Based on relevant theoretical perspectives from the above-mentioned fields of study, we have developed a research model serving as a base for seven propositions. A qualitative study based on four interviews has been conducted with respondents with of substantial knowledge and experience in the YRD (Yangtze River Delta) area maritime cluster. In order to support or contradict the research propositions, we have analyzed our empirical findings to reveal patterns and connections between our theoretical perspectives and the data gathered. We also searched for similarities and differences in respondents statements.
