Autorenporträt
Bruce A. Sorrie started his career as a photographer in the U.S. Navy and then held various positions as an ornithologist before it became clear that his deepening interest in plants was pointing toward a career in botany. Now 30 years into his botany career, Bruce is recognized as one of the foremost authorities on the flora of the Coastal Plain, which extends from Massachusetts to Texas. He works as an inventory biologist with the North Carolina Natural Heritage Program, where he performs county-by-county surveys of natural areas, habitats, and rare species in the Sandhills region and lower Piedmont. Bruce is author of over 50 published papers, a regional reviewer for the Flora of North America series, a research associate at the University of North Carolina herbarium, and a photographer. Birding remains his most enthusiastic hobby, which he pursues throughout the Americas, with Brazil and Jamaica being his most recent trips. Bruce lives in Whispering Pines, N.C.
