The incidence of overweight conditions among children and adolescents is a growing global health concern. To help shed light, this report includes a compilation of scholarly work that I, in partnership with many colleagues, have conducted to investigate some key influences on the development of lifestyle patterns. The key influences of parental behaviors and parenting styles and of cultural social norms are noteworthy but are in no way exhaustive of the possibly infinite combinations of variables that contribute to the development of related lifestyle patterns among human beings.
