This research examines the power costs of network irregularities on communications and localization in an Ad-hoc Wireless Sensor Network (AWSN). Specifically, the performance of two anchor-based algorithms, APS-Euclidean and Map-Growing, are characterized with respect to the data communications costs. The number of data bits transmitted and received are significantly affected by varying levels of mobility, node degree, and network shape. For APS-Euclidean, mobility accounts for 92.91% of the variation in the number of bits transmitted.
