This book was inspired from my years of working with children and adolescents in the mental health setting and school setting. Many of the young people I treat today, or have treated in the past, struggle to cope with their emotions, due to loss, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, ADHD, etc. And, although the therapeutic and counseling interventions I provided did help decrease their symptoms, a common theme continued to present itself during my sessions with my clients. I would often hear 'I know my parents love me, but they don't listen to me, ' 'my parents don't spend time with me, or 'they don't care.' Of course, my clients knew their parents loved them, however from their perspective they believed their parents were 'busy' or 'did not have enough time for them.' It became clear to me that the missing link to the overall success of the young people I support is them feeling like their parents were present and available for them; they wanted and needed to feel loved, heard, and seen by their parents. Noticeably, after making suggestions to parents on how to communicate interest and love to their children with a busy schedule, my clients' overall mood increased and they experienced even more success in treatment. This book is a help guide for parents and caregivers to use to affirm their children. It offers tips on how to show your children a deeper level of love by using words, and it allows parents to make reflections with a journal section. Dear Parents, Thank you for all the sacrifices you make to give your children the best chance at having a happy and healthy life.
