This book presents genre analysis of school debates, an interactional approach to discourse organization.The book explains discourse by means of basic conventionalized communicative events imposed by norms, goals purpose, etc. of the discourse community of learners who are Sri Lankan secondary school school students. The book accounts for the variety of factors interwoven in the organization of language use as genre analysis offers explanations to many of the mysteries of the way members of various discourse communities function to achieve goals. Language among the Sri Lankan secondary school students is regarded as a non - autonomous device. Instead, communication is linked to other non - linguistics devices which their significance could only be explicated from the imperative of contexts and socio - culture.
