Globally, refractive error remains a public health problem. It is one of the leading causes of avoidable blindness. One major set back in controlling this easily preventable cause of visual impairment is the lack of data on the distribution of refractive error among various population groups especially in developing countries. Dr Ovenseri-Ogbomo obtained his Doctor of Optometry (OD) from the University of Benin, Nigeria graduating as the best graduating student in Physiological Optics in 2000 and went on to complete an MPH from the College of Medicine, University of Benin, Nigeria. He joined the Department of Optometry University of Cape, Ghana in 2004.
