Exploration seismology plays a vital role in modern global economics, since it ensures adequate methods to locate underground water, hydrocarbons or gas reservoirs. Computational methods are key in the modern development of exploration seismology. We study the computational performance of simulating seismic wave propagation on cross-sections of heterogeneous geologic media, as modeled by seismic velocity profiles. We implement a reference high-performance sequential driver, and then we analyze the impact of different boundary conditions in modeling the problem of seismic wave propagation, as well as the impact of utilizing compile-time acceleration technologies.
