Between the years 1919 and 1933 the German government tried to control the flow of Germany's citizens emigrating abroad. This study analyses the role of two private German cultural institutions, the Verein für das Deutschtum im Ausland and the Deutsches Ausland-Institut , their influences on German emigration to Canada and assessment of ethnic Germans already residing there.

The Author: Grant Grams was born in 1965 in Regina, Canada. He studied History and Sociology at the University of Saskatchewan (BA 1989). In Germany he continued his studies at the University of Freiburg (M.A. 1995) and the University of Marburg (Ph.D. 2000).
