Column One- Person's full name along with other names used. Column Two- The Company the person served in. Column Three- The Unit or ship the person served in. Column Four- The Rank achieved by the person in the unit of record or job title. Column Five- Whether the person was a Slave or a Free Man of Color (FMC) and other miscellaneous information found. Many are drafted or ordered by their slave masters and forcibly delivered to Confederate army campsites. And at the end of the war black confederates received pensions and which are listed. Why would African Americans fight for the South? For many, it was about man's quest for respect. Enslaved African Americans men would rather face a bullet than a lash.
