Some experts, especially those belonging to sports medicine, understand sports training as basically doing physical exercises. The term training refers to the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of the teaching of vocational or practical skills and knowledge that relate to specific useful competencies. Physical activity and sports are known to positively affect childhood body composition (fat and bone tissue) development however, there are also some concerns about the potential negative effects that intensive physical training may have on a child's growth and development. For example, it has been suggested that intense training at a young age adversely affects the growth and maturation of young gymnasts.
