Remote sensing technology can be integrated in long-term studies, both retrospective and predictive, in order to anticipate degradation and to take mitigating measures at an early stage on these water environments. This book attempts to propose new approaches to monitor water environments using satellite remote sensing data and those methods will give contributions to various related fields such as mitigation of localized water quality problems, sustainable use of water bodies, and conservation of biodiversity. Further it discussed several case studies and successfully described environmental issues which were associated with studied water environments in Sri Lanka and Japan.
