Autorenporträt
Doak Turner is a kid from St. Albans, WV that has lived A Crazy Journey of Life. He worked in the entertainment business in several capacities 40+ years in radio sales and marketing in Charleston, WV and Charlotte, NC where he was "Salesperson of the Year" several times in his broadcast sales career and in the entertainment biz. Doak loved working with concert and event promoters as his clients that opened the world of entertainment and sports for Doak to meet & sometimes work and build relationships with some of the biggest names in the entertainment business. Meeting 100's of artists over the years backstage, NWA pro wrestling as a ring announcer in the mid 80's in WV, syndication and sales with NASCAR Country Radio Network, Arena Football in Charlotte, NC, and pro tennis events in the Carolinas were some of Doak's happiest times over the years. In 2002 Doak moved to Nashville, TN to write songs and established two unique music industry businesses, The Nashville Muse & Music Starts Here. The websites and communities became a GPS for creators in Nashville. Doak also hosted 120+ songwriting events in his home in Nashville and was named Nashville Songwriters Association International Ambassador of the Year in 2012. Doak co-wrote songs with several songwriters that were recorded and performed by several independent artists and he co-wrote a song that was #1 on the Country Christian Chart, "I Talk To God". Through the Nashville era, 2002 - 2020, Doak was fortunate to work on Music Row and on major events including CMA Awards, CMT Awards, CMA Festival, several television tapings, attend many #1 Songwriter award events, to network and build relationships in the music industry. Doak is known by his friends as, "A Songwriters Friend" as he helped connect creators on all levels in the music industry with his networking abilities and passion for the entertainment industry. In 2017, Doak moved back to the Carolinas, continued the trips to Nashville until 2020. Doak found himself feeling like a failure, as if he failed on his journey of big dreams as a songwriter, to write and have the songs recorded by the major artists and to become a #1 hit songwriter and have his songs heard on the radio, television, in concerts and venues. Doak did not have any idea for his future as he closed down his Nashville Music Business and stopped making the trips to Nashville. In 2018, Doak read a book that helped discover his true identity is not his job/career/goals in life. Doak read "IDENTITY I Am Not What I Do, I Am Not What I have, I Am Not What Others Say About Me. I Am A Beloved Child of God. I Will Not Hurry I Will Not Worry". Learning the Identity statement, looking over his journey of life, made Doak realize that his work, what he did in life, things he did were not his true Identity. He realized those things were what he did, not who he was in life. Doak was inspired in 2020 to do what he calls, a "brain dump" and write 100+ of his stories of working in the entertainment industry, meeting people, building relationships over the past 40+ years. He calls it cheap therapy. Those stories became, "A Crazy Journey" (And Finding My True Identity). In 2023 Doak edited the stories with the angle of becoming inspiring and teaching others how tosucceed in their career, and keep a balance of their true identity, The "Takeaway" after each story explains the story behind the story. The Testimony in the book is Doak's story of his journey from the beginning of meeting famous people to working with some of them, getting wrapped up in that was his identity to himself and when major changes happened, that he did not fail on his journey. Doak is now very happy in life, living on Lake Norman, NC with his awesome woman Kathy and "Flex" their French Bulldog. He hopes to continue to inspire others with his story and is available to speak to groups, companies, churches and others
