The discourse presents Zangbeto, a living cultural heritage of the Ogu of Southwestern Nigeria as one of the resilient and functional masked traditions of West Africa in the 21st century. This is done against the backdrop of Nigeria's grossly underexplored intangible cultural heritage industry with a view to re awakening corporate and specialised interest in the subject. The author extensively highlights the rich symbolisms in the Zangbeto cult, as well as the structural features that have sustained the organisation's relevance within indigenous Ogu communities and beyond, both as an effective apparatus of social control and a living expression of a people's uniqueness and dynamism.
