Doreen G. Lesane, named a 2017 New York City Domestic Violence Advocate, is a leading voice for victims and survivors of abuse. She is a New York born Educator who combined her personal experience with domestic violence with her professional experience to bring awareness about this crime. Doreen is also the Founder/CEO of Sunshine In My Living Room where she continues to be committed to bringing awareness and enhancing the lives of those impacted by abuse through her SPEAK UP Campaign. She has received numerous awards over the past ten years for her dedication to providing services and engaging others. She was the Keynote Speaker at the New York City Police Department 15th Annual Domestic Violence Conference. Her presentation entitled "Not Ashamed of My Story" was both informational and inspirational. Although she holds a Graduate Degree in Criminal Justice with a Human Service Minor from Monroe College and is certified as a NYS OASAS Education and Training Provider, a Rape Crisis Advocate and a Visit Coach, it is her vast knowledge, extensive personal history and her journey of survival with domestic violence that qualifies her as an expert. Her work space includes schools, colleges, health fairs, the boxing ring, the beach and any venue where people gather. She has and continue to train law enforcement, medical personnel, members of different faiths and the general public on what domestic violence is and is not plus how to recognize and respond to it. Her approach is unconventional yet authentic. She is a Mom, Grandmom, Chaplain, Chaplain Instructor, Author and avid reader. Her mission is simple: To inspire others to inspire others through information and inspiration.
