Clare Green enjoyed reading this story as a child. She first received it as a get-well present from her Mom when she was six years old. Storytelling it as an adult with a live pine tree always brought a warm reception by the audience. This encouraged her to ask her childhood and neighborhood friend, Zack, from Wilton, CT to illustrate it. She knew that Zack could bring the story alive! He introduced Clare to many of nature's mysteries and she treated him to homemade cookies on his way home from school as a youngster. Clare is an educator and North Quabbin Guide who shares her love of nature. She welcomes visits to her woodland labyrinth and fairy cottage in Warwick, Massachusetts.
