On a cold, grey Milwaukee November day in 2006, Nick Paisano had just won the local senior golf club championship. It was a remarkable event considering he had been hospitalized with a concussion just three weeks earlier. In his acceptance speech, he honored his late father, Domenic, who had taught him the game of golf and so much more. As a youth, his father was an abused orphan who stumbled into learning and loving the game of golf. But, as much as he focused on it, Domenic's primary focus was on historical research; a not-so-easy task for anyone, much less an uneducated orphan. In spite of his lack of formal academic training, he was disciplined and self-taught, and very much at home in the major public and law libraries. What was he after? What was driving him? Little did he know at the time that there was a cloud of darkness that had made its way over western civilization; over his nation; even into his home. He and his wife, Stella, would be viciously attacked for something that they had in their possession; something coveted by Adolf Hitler, and his henchmen were willing to get it at any cost. With unusual gifts of inquiry, as Nick matured, both he and his father would spend their lives evaluating apparently factual information, but instead, uncovering speculation cloaked as science, hoaxes, scams and frauds, all seemingly unconnected. As the product of their research takes shape, it turns out that there were some common denominators in the actions by such public figures as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, William Jennings Bryant, Charles Darwin, Clarence Darrow, Joseph Goebbels, and others. Dom and Nick were connecting the dots and realizing the magnitude of the implications of the connections. Finding the nation in a damaging veil of darkness, can Nick somehow become a beacon of light and make an impact? Or is it just too late?
