This book is addressed to surgeons, oncologists, general practitioners and contains medical case reports of soft tissue sarcoma (STS) (retroperitoneal sarcoma is also included) in patients attending Emergency County Hospital of Craiova, Romania. A thorough history, physical examination, diagnostic procedure and surgical treatment for these patients have been described. The data presented in this book thus sheds some light in favor of isolated intraarterial perfusion of the limb and molecular targeted therapy which improve immediate postoperative outcome in patients with advanced STS. Reintroduction of isolated perfusion of the limb with TNF-a and melphalan was is benefic for limb salvage in cases of unresectable STS. Conventional chemotherapy has little effect on the prognosis of most STS, but the availability of new targeted agents may improve the prognosis for this type of tumors. Pre- or post-operatory radiotherapy is effective in preventing local recurrence in patients with STS who have an increased risk of developing recurrences.
