Kidney stones has claimed the lives of thousands and many have been bedridden by this dreadful disease. Every year, millions of dollars are spent on hemodialysis by patients with chronic kidney failure arising from nephrolithiasis. The widespread kidney related diseases in our world today has gotten many researchers to probe into the good old traditional medicinal plants to find solutions since these diseases were not dominant during the ages when medicinal plants were widely used. More so increasing prices of conventional medicines, the difficulty in finding a kidney donor and the high risk of surgery calls for the discovery of new and less expensive plant-based medicines. In life, sometimes the solution to our biggest questions lies right on our doorsteps. Eleusine indica (goose grass) is a very common species of grass found in all the habitable continents of the world. Millions of money and resources are wasted ever year to control this highly invasive weed. Little did we knowthat this ordinary grass, hated by many farmers is endowed with kidney protective properties and has profound ability to treat kidney stones.
