He soon learns that the journeyman agents are a little rough around the edges and though not trained instructors, are not at all shy about pointing out Danielson's shortcomings. Danielson realizes that the Academy educated him concerning immigration law and formal Spanish but now knows that the core duties and responsibilities are learn as you go. Some journeyman agents though hard working and highly experienced sometimes work in a grey area others would say is unorthodox or slightly unethical. Each journeyman agent attempts to impress upon him the proper way they believe the job should be done and Danielson must perform those duties without risking violation of his probationary status and personal safety. Danielson works his way through his probationary period to the level of journeyman agent for himself. He now finds work as a journeyman Border Patrol agent comes with added duties, higher responsibility for himself as well as the well-being and safety of others. He is now assigned to perform unfamiliar duties and with equipment he has not been trained with.
