The study examined how religious teachings concerning marriage influenced Christian Women dealing with domestic violence. Eight women were interviewed who had experienced domestic abuse at some point in their lives. Findings along with implications revealed that several factors contributed to their decisions to remain in the relationships or to leave. The study revealed a broad range of factors or reasons for their decisions.

Daphney Lockette,PhD was born and raised in Harlem, NY. She received her BS in Sociology, MS in Teaching, & Doctorate in Human Services. Currently pursuing a MS in Divinity, she is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and the East Conference Women in Ministry. She was a NYC and NJ Public School educator and College Professor.
