Senior citizens continue to be a forgotten frontier in evangelism and local church outreach today. When I first wrote this guide in 1982, it was the product of starting seventeen senior citizens' outreach programs in local churches in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. The vision to see more churches see the value of reaching their senior citizens and providing a faith-based fellowship for them was our inspiration then and remains now that local churches see a vision for these special people. Sad to say, this is not the case.

Having a senior citizens program in the local church can be one of the least expensive and most meaningful outreach of the local church or community association. It requires space, little funding, a dedicated leader, and volunteers, and it can be one of the least costly programs that can be put on by the local church. It is easy to do and easy to manage. The need for a direct and specific program orientated toward seniors in the local church has never been greater than it is today. People are living longer. This is every growing field that truly is white unto harvest. With the changes in our society, increased life expectancy, increase in birth control, and now the wholesale slaughter of unwanted children (called abortion and sometimes birth killing), we are seeing the senior citizen population increasing.

Dewey E. Painter, Sr. is the founder [1991] and CEO of Mission Harvest America, a nonprofit humanitarian aid organization located in Jacksonville, Florida. He is Co-Founder of Mission Harvest Haiti and President of Haiti Parcel Service located in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He is the Senior Partner of VHDP Associates, LLC formed in 2010 and located in Jacksonville, Florida. He also serves as Chancellor of Taongi National University, Founder and former Chancellor of Dominion University at Iasi, Romania, Founder, and former Chancellor of Liberia Christian College, Monrovia, Liberia, Executive Director of the International Education Professional Accreditation Association, President of Bethesda International College, Vice President of Angel Aid, [a hospice program for children], Former Commander of the Springfield Composite Squadron USAF/CAP Jacksonville, Florida and as the Former Commander, 4th District, United States Ranger Corps. Dr. Painter and his wife, Clara, have one son, Earle who is Global Representative for Sensible Technologies, Plymouth Michigan, and one daughter, Marilyn, who is Principle The administrator of Institutional School System, Baltimore Maryland. Dr. Painter, also known by the Native American Indian name of Flying Eagle, is an Elder and member of the White Bear Muskogee Tribe and Serving Committee Member of the Spirit of Eagles American Indian Association sponsored by Mayo Hospital and Co-Founder of the South East American Indian Council, Inc. He is Senior Partner for VHDPLLC Associates, LLC. He helped to establish 17 Senior Citizens Programs in local churches and through his Logistical experience and leadership Dr. Painter serves in a variety of positions all designed to forward the focus of his primary mission of helping the third world countries to meet humanitarian needs and to excel in education and economical opportunities. He has developed the unique skill of being able to work with all levels of government and private corporations to facilitate a cooperative action between growing numbers of endeavors worldwide. His ability to demonstrate absolute faith in the face of confusion and challenge has won him the respect and admiration of many. As one who endeavors to give others the credit for work accomplished, he receives his satisfaction from knowing the needs of others are met, regardless of who knows what has been accomplished by his leadership. Over the past twenty-eight years the organizations that he has founded and directed have assisted over 7,000 agencies, governments, ministries, churches, and missionaries in 41 states and 80 countries. He is committed to meeting the needs of American Indians, the inner city populations, rural poverty, and the poor and needy, yet at the same time keeping a balance helping the poor and needy in a global world. Over 8,385 shipments with more than 217 million pounds of materials, worth in excess of $187 million, have been distributed since he began the material logistic part of the ministry in 1994. While he could not provide funds, his leadership located and shipped material that has value in meeting domestic and global needs.
