In today's world, concepts like insecure attachments, obsession and temporary physical attractions are confused with love. Love is an indispensable aspect of human life, therefore it should come as no surprise to hear that love is always one of the most frequently discussed topics and ended with the most essential and philosophical question: "What is love?" Plato and Rumi appear to be communicating a true meaning of love that comes from a true sense of self-knowledge. This writing deals with the concept of love in the thought of Plato (428-347 BC) and Jalal al-Din Rumi (1207-1231). Plato's concept of love based on his Symposium, and in Rumi based on his Mathnawi. The concepts of these two figures are analytically compared by way of their views on love. Through love man seeks a way to return to the central source from which he has received his being and existence.
