Poisonous plants are those plants which on the whole or any part of it on contact of humans or livestock by ingestion, absorption (by skin) or inhalation (in respiratory system) cause death or irritations or respiratory troubles etc. the identification of such plants is necessary to eliminate the danger of accidental poisoning. The present work is a detail study of poisonous plants of Chandrapur district of Maharashtra state. An exhaustive survey of such plants was conducted on the basis of information form pertinent literature and a general taxonomic survey of the area was also conducted. These plant are having various toxic chemicals in various parts of plants body viz, Alkaloids terpenes volatile compounds, cyanogenic glycosides etc as secondary metabolic products. It is assumed that these metabolic changes in the plant are part of co-evolution with animals particularly insect and these are being produced for defense or repels to the predator. The work has divided into 6 chapters: Introduction, Review of Literature, Materials and methods, Experimental results, Discussion, Summary, Conclusion and References.
