Utilization of Zinc oxide and copper doped Zinc oxide nanoparticle thin films have been grown on to Indium Tin Oxide coated glass substrates by simple dip coating method. CdS quantum dot have been in corporated in to the ZnO nanoparticle based Cu doped ZnO nanoparticle thin films by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method. The optical absorption spectra reveals that the light absorbance of the film is improved with sensitization by CdS quantum dots. Solar cells have been fabricated using the undoped and doped ZnO nanoparticle thinfilms. The structure of the fabricated solar cells are ITO/ ZnO-CdS quantum dots and Cu doped ZnO-CdS quantum dots Pt electrode. The efficiency of CdS quantum dot sensitized 6% Cu doped ZnO nanoparticle based solar cell was found to be 1.29% with a short circuit current density of 4.87 mA/cm2, open circuit voltage 0.52 V and fill factor 0.50. The improved efficiency of 6% Cu doped ZnO nanoparticle quantum dot sensitized solar, Copper atoms creates a trap-state mediator in the ZnO nanostructures for favoring in the faster charge transfer rates and facile the low energetic electrons easily moved forward as well.
