Even after 75 years of independence, women are facing critical problems to participate in politics. In this context, there is greater need to study about the political empowerment of women in India. The present study is an effort to identify the areas of discrimination with regard to women's political participation and their empowerment in India as well as in Visakhapatnam. The purpose of any social science research is problem solving and relevance to the society. Keeping this objective in mind, by studying the women political participation issue through multi-faceted ways, the researcher intends to formulate some problem solving mechanisms so that women in Visakhapatnam would be empowered politically in the near future.

She obtained Doctorate Degree in Political Science and Public Administration Andhra University.
