Autorenporträt
Emily L. Messenger was born September 7, 1931 at the beginning of the Great Depression. She was raised on a dairy farm in eastern Connecticut and attended local schools graduating as valedictorian from Plainfield High School. She earned her BA in education from UConn. After her marriage, she moved to the rural town of Granby. There she raised three daughters and had a successful career as an elementary teacher. While teaching 3rd grade she served on a town-wide science curriculum committee. She also has been an active member of the First Congregational Church of Granby since 1954. She has taught Sunday School in her church, served on several committees was a loyal member of the choir. After retirement, she taught ESL, volunteered as a reader for a second grade class, experimented with stained glass, studied writing for children, built and learned to play a dulcimer. At the age of 80 she wrote her first poem and discovered a hidden talent. She has been compared to Robert Frost. Many areas of interest and wrote her first poem at the age of 80. These poems are collected here for your entertainment and inspiration.
