Agriculture still remains the backbone of Ghana's economy. Thus any factor which leads to inefficiency in this sector will have a serious influence on the economic well-being of the country. Worn tools are usually less effective especially in terms of the tillage, seeding and weed control. Rapid ploughshare wear is identified as a major constraint facing farmers in Ghana. Many soil bins (and machines) have been developed with varying degrees of success to model the conditions found in the field. However, in Ghana and other sub-Saharan African countries, facilities are lacking in research institutions and colleges. This necessitated the need to develop a wear test equipment for carrying out research in the laboratory. They equipment works quite well and can mimic what happens on the field.
