The Ministry of Education has over the years developed many good policies to produce an efficient and high quality system of education for Malawi. Implementation of these policies has been a challenge due to a lack of trained personnel, insufficient finances and weaknesses in accountability systems. The constant development of new education policies has placed unnecessary pressure on the Ministry leaving little time for their implementation, monitoring and evaluation; in the process compromising the quality of education services. Furthermore, information literacy is still perceived a privilege for higher learning institutions sidelining primary and secondary school education. This book explores the role information literacy can play in improving the standards of education vis a vis its contribution to socio-economic development. The analysis will help the education and the library / information science sectors appreciate this role and therefore consider introducing information literacy curriculum into the teacher education system and devise strategies that can facilitate in developing information literacy and lifelong learning skills in all sectors of the Malawian society.
