This is not your usual garden book. Yes, like all excellent garden books, it is about a very beautiful house and garden and has 160+ great color photos, many full- or double-page size. But most of these books, after a brief perusal, go on the bookshelf or the coffee table. This book you will really explore, as it is more than a pleasant experience. It is structured as a walking tour; you will always know where you are in the house and gardens and the vantage point from which the photos are taken, giving a much more immersive experience. Along the walk, the text commentary provides insight and anecdotes about plants, trees, installations, house architecture and furnishing, arts and crafts elements, and garden design and construction. It also explains how the house and its 10 acres of gardens can be operated and maintained by less than two full-time employees, if supplied with the right productivity improving tools and equipment, combined with maintenance reducing garden design choices. Finally, it sketches the journey starting with Jack Lenor Larsen in 1962 and us building off his foundations since 1989, as we created this gem over a 60+ year period. Possibly best of all, when finished you will not just be left with good memories of an enjoyable "walk", but also with interesting information and ideas, some of which you will want to try out in your own garden.
