Memories of the general from the infantry of Edward Vladimirovich Eck (1851-1937) cover the period 1868-1918. The book tells about the time of his service in the Life Guards Regiment, as well as about the Russian-Turkish 1877-1878, the Russian-Japanese 1904-1905. and the First World Wars. The author gives a unique picture of the life of the Russian Imperial Army from the might of the 1860's until its collapse in the chaos of the February 1917 revolution. A huge number of sketches from the military life of the Russian Empire, descriptions of the author's meetings with major historical figures and vivid, colorful images of pre-revolutionary Russia make Eck's memories truly a valuable historical source.
