Writing is one of the four language macro-skills that every individual is expected to learn. It is corollary to the three other skills - reading, listening, and speaking - and thus it cannot be learned in isolation. Regardless of their grade level, students are taught the rudiments of writing for a variety of purposes, such as to describe, to inform, to persuade, and to present a position in an argument. In relation to writing as a fundamental skill, Barone (2010) asserts that the foundations of language learning are very critical in determining students' further success in both the academe and the workplace.
