A Case for Veganism addresses the most commonly heard arguments against veganism, and refutes them from the perspective of a law school graduate and professional support lawyer. The three central themes are animal ethics, human health, and planet earth. In total, fifty reasons to continue the consumption of animal products are discussed and ultimately rejected. Firstly, the author challenges ethical arguments in favour of consuming animal products and argues that they are either inconsistent or illogical, or both. Exploitation of animals poses ethical dilemmas that can only be resolved by adopting veganism as a moral framework. Once animal ethics have been discussed, many refer to personal health to justify their consumption of animal products. Therefore, the second part of this book seeks to dispel the myth that animal products are required for optimal health. Via extensive scientific referencing, it even argues that animal products do more harm than good to human health. Thirdly, adopting a plant-based lifestyle will also be of great help in combating climate change, as well as various environmental problems. At the same time, food security issues can be mitigated through a collective switch to a plant-based lifestyle, while chances of antibiotic resistance and future outbreaks of pandemic viruses (such as COVID-19) are reduced. The author concludes that adopting a plant-based lifestyle is not only an ethical obligation to animals, but also an invaluable service to personal health and to our planet.
