This book examines the ethnic composition of Serbia, giving a general overview of the largest minority groups in the country, while focusing on the Albanian minority. Further on, the minority rights in Serbia will be covered, by examining more closely the issue of the involvement of minorities in the decision-making process of the country, how it evolved over time, since the fall of the ¿nationalist regime¿. The case study of Preshevo Valley in the Southern part of Serbia will be the main focus, in order to give more insights about the treatment of the Albanian minority, which is a special case within the country, because of the complicated relations between the two nations. The impact that European Union conditionality have, in the nowadays developments in Serbia, is going to be discussed through this book as well, since the developments of the political spectrum of Serbia have changed a lot after the fall of Milosevic¿s regime in 2000 and the country has entered the democratization process. This book will give some insights about the progress achieved by Serbia throughout the time, in the implementation of minority protection criteria set by the European Commission.
