Techniques reviewed include: Conventional radiography· Endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound· Conventional, color-Doppler and contrast-enhanced ultrasound· Computed tomography· Magnetic resonance imaging, and· Contrast-enhanced PET/CT imaging. Both medical and surgical treatment strategies are also fully reviewed. Finally, the book concludes with a chapter that aims to stimulate widespread interest in the formation of new GISTs Units. Written by experts in the field, the book is enriched throughout by numerous black-and-white and color images, making itan invaluable source of information as well as an indispensable guide to interpreting images for radiologists, gastroenterologists, pathologists, oncologists and surgeons.
Autorenporträt
Elisabetta de Lutio graduated in medicine and specialized in diagnostic imaging at the University of Naples. In her over twenty years of experience, first at A. Cardarelli Hospital (Naples) and now at the G. Pascale Tumor Foundation (Naples), she has been involved in various sectors of diagnostic imaging, including conventional radiology, interventional US, color Doppler, CEUS and MDCT, and become expert in double contrast techniques applied to the musculoskeletal system and the gastrointestinal tract. Her strong interdisciplinary approach has seen her involved in numerous interdepartmental working groups and study protocols, collaborating with colleagues from hematology, surgery, medicine and intensive care in the study of a broad range of oncologic disease, including colorectal cancer, HCC, GIST and breast cancer, as well as studying novel techniques of contrast enhancement. She has also taught in specialization courses in oncology and diagnostic imaging techniques of the gastrointestinal tract.
Rezensionen
From the reviews:

"A thoughtfully compiled book, containing 11 chapters which address the epidemiology, pathology and molecular biology, imaging/diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of this unique neoplasm, which can often surprise and fascinate physicians with its wide range of clinical presentations and behaviors. ... Overall, the editors have created a text which is useful for any diagnostic radiologist or other clinician ... . this is a helpful and well-written text with many beautiful illustrative images, addressing molecular biology, evaluation, and treatment of GI stromal tumors." -- Elena Korngold, Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer, Vol. 42 (3), May, 2011
