The United States Jailhouse Lawyer's Manual first gained recognition when "DEAD MAN WALKING" author Sister Helen Prejean took interest in the works of Esteban Rogelio Garcia to write into it an introduction that was beyond hopeful and encouraging to prisoners. A layman in law in early 1972, Garcia was able to accomplish what very few prison inmates are ever able to accomplish in or out of prison. The 1970"s in Texas prisons is not a part of Texas History anyone wishes to remember. They were the days when certain prisoners were allowed to work as prison guards. Esteban Rogelio Garcia was there until the 1980's. He knew then as he knows now, how difficult it is for prisoners to pursue legal actions without the proper and updated research. That is why this manual is of most importance to prisoners all over the U.S. "The United States Jailhouse Lawyer's Manual 2012 Supplement/ The Unconstitutional Plea" is not the sole work of Garcia. This time he enlisted some help; it includes contributions by Timothy Lynch, PHD., Assistant Director of the CATO Institute, Project on Criminal Justice, Washinton, D.C., and the author of the Rules and Regulations on Federal Habeas Corpus, Kent S.
