Recent developments in globalisation have resulted in
an increasing spread of the English language across
the globe. Consequently, the demand for English has
grown, as has interest in quality provision of
English language instruction. How language learning
takes place in instructional settings and what
factors impact on its success has been the interest
of researches over the past three decades. This book
comprehensively covers many areas that impact on
achievement in language learning by providing an
overview of the most seminal works in each area. It
also provides new insights based on a study of
learner beliefs about language learning and explores
their potential relationship to learners personality
traits. This book will appeal to language teachers,
course developers and researchers who will find it a
useful resource that will help them gain a deeper
understanding of the cognitive and affective
contributions learners bring to the language
classroom. For researchers in particular, the
empirical study described in this book will provide a
springboard for future studies.
