Autorenporträt
Josefina Fontanals Marti was born and brought up in Barcelona, where she studied languages and literature. However, because of a special interest in social psychiatry, in 1958 she decided to go to New York City, where she enrolled in Columbia University and received her degree in that field. She stayed in New York for seven years, doing social work in Spanish Harlem. On returning to Barcelona, her life was to change when she visited an exhibition of Japanese photography. She became totally immersed in this art form and exhibited her work in various locations in Catalonia; New York City; and Oxford; England. Also, her interest in cinema led her to study script writing. Once again she went to New York and enrolled in the liberal arts program at the New School for Social Research in 1980. After her graduation, she continued studying there and, in general, thrived on the accessible world of writers, psychiatrists and painters in the New York of the 80's. Since 1999 she has lived permanently in Barcelona, dedicating her time to the appreciation of art, literature, and nature. She has published two books in Spanish, Diarious de una Adicta a Nueva York and Los Aparecidos."
