Telemedicine can be used significantly in disaster-ridden areas where there is a problem of accessibility, particularly in flood and earthquake struck areas. Moreover, advice from specialists around the globe can be taken on complex medical issues. This book provides the evaluation and performance analysis of H.264/SVC (scalable video coding) for medical videos. H.264/SVC is the recent video coding standard and the bit stream produced has lower temporal (frame rate) resolution, spatial resolution and/or fidelity. SVC is tested on five different type of medical videos of MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), Angiography, CT scan (Computerized Tomography), Echocardiography and Ultrasound. Coding efficiency of SVC providing temporal, spatial and quality scalability is compared with that of single layer H.264/AVC coding for medical videos. This book can determine the use of H.264/SVC in the medical field.
