Jeremy and Laurence interacted constantly, and the two men fought in the First World War. After the War, Jeremy became one of Laurence Marshall's employee. Jeremy's work sees him living life settled in Italy, and Laurence visited him continuously, whilst he was living there, from time to time. Laurence married an Italian countess, Sophia Del' La'Prosser, but the marriage ended in grief. Jeremy's wife, Tagrapha and the mother of his twin boys, embarked on an affair with a bronzed adorns, an Italian by the name of Marcell Marlone. When Jeremy discovered the affair; he tormented himself that he must make everything right took the life of his rival. He confides in Laurence, who with the help of a crocked detective manages to stay one step ahead of the police. However, unknown to Jeremy, Marcell Marlone was the son of a wealthy Italian noble family, who will stop at nothing until they find the killer of their son and heir. Not even Laurence's vast fortune can bring this story to a happy conclusion for both families.
