Reading is essential. Yet there are still children and adults throughout the world who are incapable to read due to functional illiteracy. The lack of knowledge of the pupils in facilitating their reading comprehension will lead to a defective reading since reading requires a deeper sense of understanding. Comprehension needs to be supported by strategies so that pupils will get to monitor their reading proficiency. For this reason teachers should employ some metacognitive strategies that can help them eradicate or lessen the said dilemma.
