This book encourages a rethink. Team dynamics and leadership on seagoing vessels must be discussed resolutely. A paradigm shift is required in dealing with such a diverse group of international workers on board. Consistent support for crews, from personnel management can prevent individual tragedies and therefore safeguard important know-how in the maritime industry in the long term. The aim of this book is to illustrate the conditions and organizational structures on board, with the hope of triggering the much needed paradigm shift.
Autorenporträt
Her practical training in worldwide cargo and research shipping was followed by studies in the humanities, social sciences and economics (B.A. M.A.) in Halle/Saale and Bochum (Germany). In addition to her work in public institutions, shipping continued to be a central theme in the author's life as a result of her professional and scientific interests. The networking of people from a wide range of disciplines and an interdisciplinary perspective will remain the guiding principle of her work in future. Auf ihre praktische Ausbildung in der weltweiten Fracht- und Forschungsschifffahrt folgten geistes-, sozial- und wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Studien in Halle/Saale und Bochum (B.A. M.A.) sowie Tätigkeiten in öffentlichen Einrichtungen. Im Leben der Autorin blieb die Schifffahrt durch berufliches und wissenschaftliches Interesse weiter zentrales Thema. Die Vernetzung von Personen und Erkenntnissen unterschiedlichster Fachrichtungen soll auch künftig die Leitlinie ihres Schaffens bleiben.
