This study is focused on interpretation of the Mural paintings of Atatami Michael church of Gondar. Gondar is popularly known as the city of forty-four churches. Debre Genet At at ami Michael Church is one of this Gondarian churches. The church was built by king Dawit III, around 1719/20. It is located on the northern margin of the royal compound, to the right of the departure of Baldaras Ber. The paintings were painted on a cotton fabric and they fixed onto the wall with glue. The pigments of the paintings were oil ink which is bright and standard. The total number of the paintings is one hundred and thirty-four which are painted in 1964 by Malaka Ganat Askal's precept. It is categorized in the 20th century paintings and the subject of the paintings is concerned both on religious as well as secular themes. This research work has tried to interpret 26 paintings in which 18 of them are spiritual and the rest 8 paintings are secular. Generally, the At at ami Michael church is an ancient and historical church which is playing significant role in the heritages of the country's and study of art history.

Fikrte Damte was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She received her BA Degree from Kottebe Metropolitan University in History and Heritage Management and MA Degree from University of Gondar in Art History. Currently she is lecturer at Makdela Amba University, South Wollo Zone in Amhara Regional State.
