J. C. Alexander has always been fascinated by tales of her grandfather's heroism during World War I. She was saddened by the fact that she never had the chance to meet the extraordinary man. When she discovered his letters, Alexander drew on her creative writing studies at Edinburgh and dedicated herself to researching his story and sharing it with the world. Alexander was born and raised in Shropshire, England. She studied archaeology at Newcastle University and spent many years working as a field archaeologist in the north of England. She still lives in the north with her husband. They have five children and five grandchildren.
