In this volume Friedrich-Emanuel Focken confirms a number of recent hypotheses concerning the literary history of the Old Testament: The Deuteronomic basis of the Book of Judges was retroactively inserted between the Priestly Scriptures of the Hexateuch (Genesis to Joshua) and the already Deuteronomically edited Books of Samuel and 1 and 2 Kings. This study thus serves to replace the previous Noth Model on the Deuteronomic works of history and the Göttingen Layer Model, both of which presumed a singular Deuteronomic basis of the Books of Deuteronomy to 2 Kings.
