Kosonike Koso-Thomas was head of a unified 'Department of Engineering' of the University of Sierra Leone, from 1962 until the department attained the status of a faculty, in 1976. He later became Vice Chancellor of the university, a position he held for nine years. As a professional engineer, he contributed to infrastructural development in Africa, undertaking several engineering consulting commissions for the design and supervision of many building structures and bridges in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mozambique, and the Gambia. He is an accomplished poet and painter.
