As a single mother of a son for many years, and someone who has had to overcome many challenges in her life, Kat has a special sensitivity to abuse and neglect that any creature would have to go through. Inspired by her rescue dog, Emmett, she has illustrated the story of how he came into her world. She hopes that by giving him a voice to describe the turmoil he had endured before becoming a member of a family, it will bring awareness to the value of adopting a rescue animal. Kat says, "Many people don't realize what these dogs have gone through before becoming available at a rescue event. Emmett has brought so much joy to our lives and truly is a gift from heaven." Living in Arizona with her husband, Kat gets greeted everyday with kisses from all her creatures; Scarlet, Jax and Emmett. As a grown man, her son is in the military, and a certified dog trainer with dogs of his own.
